Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does a PEET Original Shoe Dryer work?
The PEET Original Dryer uses gentle thermal convection technology to circulate warm air through footwear and gear, safely drying them from the inside out. With no moving parts or fans, the dryer operates silently.
Plug in the dryer, wait 15–20 minutes and feel the center of the drying tubes—they should be warm to the touch. The PEET Original relies on natural convection rather than forced air, it does not blow noticeable hot air and operates completely silent.
2. How long does it take to dry boots or shoes?
Drying time varies depending on the material, how wet the footwear is, and the type of dryer being used.
Thermal convection (non-fan) dryers use gentle, consistent warm airflow and typically takes 4 to 8 hours, or overnight to fully dry most shoes and boots.
Fan-assisted dryers use additional airflow to speed up drying and include a 4-hour timer, making them ideal for faster turnaround between uses. Heavily saturated footwear may require additional drying time.
3. Is the PEET Dryer safe for all materials?
Yes. PEET dryers are designed to dry footwear using gentle warmth that is safe for leather, rubber, neoprene, canvas, synthetics, and waterproof membranes. Many long-term users report extended life from their leather work boots, from drying them daily on the Peet dryer.
4. Can I leave my PEET Dryer plugged in all the time?
Yes. Most PEET dryers are designed for continuous operation and use very little electricity. The Original PEET Dryer uses approximately 36 watts, less than many household light bulbs.
5. Does the dryer get hot?
No. The dryer becomes warm but not hot. It typically reaches operating temperature within about 15-20 minutes and is designed to dry safely without damaging footwear.
6. Does regular use of a PEET Dryer reduce odor buildup?
Yes. By removing moisture that allows odor-causing bacteria and fungi to thrive, the dryer helps reduce odors.
7. What are the main benefits of using a PEET Dryer?
• Keeps feet more comfortable by removing moisture
• Helps prevent odor buildup
• Extends the life of footwear and gear
• Reduces mold and mildew growth
• Provides dry footwear ready for the next day
8. Do I need to use PEET DryPort attachments?
Yes. DryPorts are engineered to direct airflow through footwear and gear. Using footwear without the appropriate DryPort attachment can reduce performance and may void the warranty.
9. Can I dry more than just shoes and boots?
Absolutely. With the proper PEET DryPort attachments, you can dry:
• Gloves
• Mittens
• Helmets
• Waders
• Hip boots
• Chest waders
• Sports gear
** Always use the appropriate attachment for best performance.
10. Can I block the unused tubes when using only one side of a double dryer?
No. If you are using a convection dryer, single, or double, all tubes must be unobstructed. Blocking or covering the unused tubes can restrict airflow and reduce the dryer's overall performance. The dryer is designed to operate with all tubes open, even when drying a single pair of footwear.
11. What is the difference between a thermal convection (non-fan) dryer and a fan-assisted dryer?
Non fan assisted dryers:
• Silent operation with no moving parts
• Uses gentle thermal convection airflow
• Energy efficient and reliable
• Ideal for overnight drying
After plugging it in, wait 15–20 minutes and feel the center tubes—they should be warm to the touch. The dryer does not blow noticeable hot air or make noise.
Fan assisted dryers:
• Includes a fan-assisted drying system for increased airflow
• Dries footwear faster than the Original
• Features both heat or no heat option fan technology
• Great for users who need quicker drying times between uses
12. Can I dry tall boots or waders?
Yes. PEET offers 12-inch Extension Tubes, which are required when drying footwear taller than 10 inches or any type of waders. These extensions help ensure warm air reaches the full length of the item for optimal drying performance.
· 1 pair of 12-inch Extension Tubes is required for tall boots or hip waders.
· 2 pairs of 12-inch Extension Tubes are required for chest waders.
PEET also offers specialized models designed specifically for taller gear, including the
Original PEET XL Tall for tall boots and the Original PEET Wader for hip and chest waders.
13. What is the correct way to place footwear on the dryer?
• Place footwear upside down over the DryPorts.
• Keep the toe slightly higher than the heel.
• Loosen laces and tongues to improve airflow.
• Ensure at least 6 inches of clearance above the dryer for proper circulation.
14. Is the SafeKeeping PEET noisy?
No. The SafeKeeping PEET operates with silent operation. It contains no fans or moving parts, making it a quiet and maintenance-free solution for humidity control.
15. How do I install the SafeKeeping PEET?
Place the dryer upright in a corner of the safe or cabinet. If desired, it can be mounted to the floor or base of the safe. Route the power cord through the safe's access port and plug it into a standard 110–120 volt household outlet.
